Santa Barbara Studio Artists’ Annual Open Studios Tour

Since 2019, the Santa Barbara Studio Artists have hired us to promote their annual Open Studios Tour—the oldest and most prestigious event of its kind on the Central California Coast. By reaching out to local, regional, and national media and a strategic advertising strategy, the 2021 tour broke the group’s record in terms of ticket sales and also resulted in more than $100,000 in art sales—a longstanding goal that was finally achieved.

Domestic Violence Solutions for Santa Barbara County

In coordination with our fundraising and development efforts, we executed DVS’s media and marketing campaigns, including program brochures, donor newsletters, press releases and media outreach in support of awareness- and fund-raising events (Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Men Against Domestic Violence), radio spots and television PSA. We also produced web content, direct mail pieces, and other donor communications.

Copywriting and Corporate Communications

Greater New Orleans Foundation

For nearly a decade, Alchemy On Demand wrote the copy for the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s annual report, as well as for its new website, www.gnof.org, working with well-known Louisiana photographers and graphic designers to create dramatic information pieces that inspired donors, volunteers, and Louisiana residents.

Entergy

For five years, Alchemy On Demand edited and produced ON!, Entergy’s award-winning monthly employee magazine, conceptualized and wrote the company’s ADDY award-winning annual reports, and was chairman and CEO Ed Lupberger’s chief speechwriter. Copies of our speech, “The Heroes of Our Adventure,” were reprinted for each of the company’s 12,000 employees.

QAD

Global manufacturing software company QAD contracted with Alchemy On Demand for writing that combined technical sophistication and marketing savvy in annual reports, case studies, and product brochures.

Fundraising

AHa! (Attitude, Harmony, Achievement)

Grant writer and public relations/marketing consultant for nonprofit supporting teens and educators in developing emotional intelligence skills. Hired to fill a six-figure, two-year funding shortfall in nine months (check) and for raising public awareness and expanding the nonprofit’s donor base (double-check). Wrote successful grants and direct mail solicitations, handled media relations and advertising, produced semi-annual newsletters and promoted fundraising events.

Domestic Violence Solutions for SB County

For three years, Alchemy On Demand was responsible for writing more than $500,000 in foundation grants annually for Santa Barbara County’s domestic violence agency. Also coordinated a major gift campaign that raised more than $1.25 million for Mariposa House, a new transitional housing program for domestic violence survivors; directed agency’s development committee, conducted major donor asks; increased contributions from individual donors; and launched a planned giving program and a Men Against Domestic Violence initiative.

Okanogan County Long Term Recovery Group

After experiencing back-to-back summers of devastating wildfires, the newly formed Okanogan County Long-Term Recovery Group reached out to Alchemy On Demand to coordinate a multimillion-dollar recovery fundraising campaign. The effort included creating a new website, managing social media, producing two-dozen storytelling videos, creating major donor events, writing direct mail solicitations, and conducting e-newsletter campaigns. The result was more than four million dollars raised to rebuild 40 homes, provide case management and social services to hundreds of displaced residents for three years, and underwrite future emergency preparedness efforts.

Independent Features

Twisp: The Power of Community

Alchemy On Demand handled all aspects of this award-winning 39-minute documentary, from fundraising to website creation, writing, filming, editing, and PR, marketing, and promotion. The film won laurels from half-a-dozen film festivals, including Docs Without Borders, Impact Docs, WRPN.tv’s International Women’s Film Festival, WRPN.tv’s Short, Tight, and Loose Festival, Utopia, and a Best Production Design Award from the Global Nonviolent Film Festival. The film was also picked up for distribution by Global Cinema Online.

The Doctrine of Recovery

Alchemy on Demand produced this feature-length documentary on a new, Indigenous-based “Doctrine of Recovery” to replace the “Doctrine of Discovery” that has devastated Native peoples and wildlife since the arrival of Europeans. We also developed the website and promotional materials for the film, which was written and directed by Indigenous filmmaker Rain and shot and edited by our associate Anthony Stengel.

Films for Clients

Video is one of the most powerful storytelling tools available, which is why it increasingly dominates website and social media. (See our blog post: Six Reasons Why Your Business Needs Video.) We love creating powerful videos for our clients, a few of which are below:

2017 Trashion Show for the Confluence Gallery

A Home for the Ancestors for the Methow Valley Interpretive Center

Returning Grizzlies to the North Cascades for the Methow Valley Citizens Council
